Making Maple Syrup

Arron decided this year he wanted to try and make our own maple syrup. So he's been reading up on it. But he didn't want to spend a fortune on supplies if it didn't work. A.J gave him a gift card for his Birthday so he could get some taps and and things and everything else he's been piecing together. If you look out any of my windows this is the sight you'll see. Zack loves going outside throughout the day to collect it for Arron. Since he didn't want to spend alot of money on things he's gotten creative. He's trying to broil it off on the grill. But it's taking all day. When I say all day I mean from 8am to 7pm and still going all day. But it seems to be working. And the kids are loving it. The woodstove was supose to be an evaporater but they couldn't get it hot enough. So Keegan and Zack have just spent the day burning things. And loving the fact that they could. It looks like we got a lot because we used little 4 oz jars. We tried it Monday night and the kids loved it.

Cake Chemistry

This was a really fun class. And what I saw of it the kids loved it. But I was needed to help in the cake class so I didn't get to always see what they were doing every class. But the kids loved being able to make their own recipes.

Last cake class

This was one of the girls Barbie cakes when she was done with it.

Zack really enjoyed the cake class. For the last class Amy brought in Babie cakes for the girls to decorate. Zack and Joey didn't think that would work for them so she brought in a regular sheet cake for them to decorate. Zack just ended up using every color or frosting and all the different tips on his cake. He also learned how to make roses with the frosting and how to put them on the cake.

Another year older!!!

Since Arron's Birthday fell on a Thursday this year and he had fire training he wasn't home till late so we celebrated his B-day on Friday. Not that it was any better that night. He got home from work late and then wanted to tap trees and it was getting close to kids bedtime but the kids found two minutes to give him his gifts and cards.

Co-op Classes

Kids had a great time a classes this week. I ended up helping with the cake decorating class. That's why I had so many pictures of Zack's class and not Madisons.

Rabbiteers (Backyard Farmers)

Zack and another kid in the group took some of their rabbits up to Remick Farm to do a display on the rabbits. It was so cold that day. But the kids did great. We even dragged A.J out the house for the day.

Geography Bee

All three kids are in a Geography Bee. A.J has been waiting for this class to show all the information he knows. And he did. Zack and Madison did okay for the first week.

Cake Decorating Class

Zackary and Joey signed up for cake decorating class. I think it had to do with being able to eat the cake after they made it. They are the only boys in the class and that didn't bother them one bit. They both did a really good job listening and following directions.

The kids were given a certain amount of ingrients and then as a group they had to agree on how much they were going to add to make the cake. The girls cakes came out very moist and good. The boys cakes were sour tasting and dry. But both did good for the first week.

Getting ready for Valentine's Day

This year I decided to have the kids make their valentine card holder. It started out going so good and went down hill fast. But they came out great. Each box relates to the kid that made it. Madisons is a cat , Zack's has a rabbit on it. And A.J's has history facts on red hearts.
